Payroll Specialist and General Accountant

Showcase is the Home of the Hottest Trends and we’re in search of a Payroll Specialist and General Accountant!  Reporting to the Head of Accounting and Finance, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for all payroll duties for Head Office and all 150+ retail stores across North America.  Some of the duties include maintaining payroll records, processing payroll, replying to all payroll related employee’s queries, managing the group benefit plan, EHT/WSIB filing, and annual filing with CRA and various government departments. The position also provides support to the accounting team including preparation of daily cash reconciliation and entering landed costs.

Responsibilities

  • Processing the full cycle of multi-province, biweekly payrolls for salary and hourly employees (Canada and US) in an accurate and timely manner
  • Extraction, analysis and upload of payroll data into Clarity payroll software
  • Calculation of termination, retro, stat and bonus payments
  • Involvement in review of payrolls
  • Responding to payroll queries from employees and management and timely resolution of discrepancies
  • Making recommendations for process improvements as well as documentation of existing processes
  • Entering and reviewing new hires, status changes, group benefits, pension, etc.
  • Ensuring the integrity of payroll data through analysis of complex compensation models
  • Completing year end activities and balancing (T4, T4A, T2200, other related documents)
  • Managing remission and filing of statutory deductions, WSIB, EHT, WCB, garnishments and pension plans
  • Prepare daily cash reconciliation
  • Enter landed costs and other AP duties as assigned
  • Working independently to ensure all deadlines are met
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

Skills Required

  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years of payroll experience with solid knowledge of processing payroll in a high-volume payroll environment (500+ employees)
  • End to end payroll experience is an asset
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High level of proficiency using excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Desire to work in a fast paced team environment
  • Experience with custom in-house payroll software an asset
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced computer skills on MS Office, especially Excel
  • Ability to manipulate large amounts of data and to compile detailed reports
  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills
  • Sound independent judgement
  • Ability to self-motivate and follow through on tasks
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be able to work independently as well as within a team.
